After finishing a series of lectures on a particular system, a departmental quiz is organized by the faculty members for the undergraduate medical students.
In addition to the regular staff, the department has got 10 paramedical staff to provide routine as well as round the clock emergency services in the hospital. The Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory was established in July, 2004. Emergency services were started in May 2007. Presently the department is equipped with an Auto analyser, Semi-auto Analyser, Blood Gas Analyser, Electrolyte analyser and other equipments required to carry out different investigations.Approximately 40 parameters are measured in the department including routine as well as special investigations (like hormonal assays, stone analysis, lipid profile, tumor markers, 24 hours urine electrolytes, HbA1c, etc.). 24 hour emergency services are provided for the patient care and about 18 investigations are done round the clock.
Our faculty members have many publications in reputed medical journals. They are also involved in the departmental research projects on GTT, Insulin resistance, Thyroid profile and PSA .
Dr. S. Asmathulla, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry received the First Prize for his best Poster Presentation on “Oxidative stress alters the plasma albumin homeostasis in pregnancy induced hypertension”, during the 33rd Annual Conference of the Clinical Biochemists of India held at AFMC, Pune, during 23rd to 26th of November 2006. He also received the Second Prize in the Biochemistry Quiz during the same conference.

The college not only participated in MED-BIOQUEST, but also organized MED-BIOQUEST-2008 and 2012
Post-Graduate course was started in 2011. The post-graduate students learn by exposure to theory classes & biochemistry clinical lab postings and become competent to work in teaching and research institutes. They are posted in our clinical laboratory to understand the techniques & methods adopted in the Lab.
Programs like journal club, seminar and clinical lab presentations & discussions are conducted for PGs as a part of their regular academic curriculum. The department has well equipped research laboratory for the PGs, to carry out their research work. The progresses of PGs are monitored through log books.
