The department of Forensic Medicine is situated on the third floor, east wing of the medical college building with adequate space as per MCI norms. The department is currently providing training for the undergraduate students (III, IV and V semesters of II MBBS) in various forensic aspects in the field of medicine to make the students competent enough to handle all the medico-legal issues in their medical practice.
Overview
HOD Profile
Prof.Dr.Rajendrakumar.N.Kagne did his under-graduation in Swami Ramanand Teerth Rural Medical College in the year 1990. He completed his Post-graduation (MD) in 1994from the Goverment Medical College, Aurangabad.
He worked as lecturer in GMC, Aurangabad & GMC, Nanded from 1995 to 2001 for 7 years. He then got promoted as associate professor at GMC, Nanded, where he worked till 2003 then joined in SVNGC, Yawatmal 2003 to 2004, later worked in GMC, Aurangabad from 2004 to 2007. In the year 2007 he joined Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College as Professor and Head of the Department. Since then he is serving as Professor & Head of the Department in the college. He is also holding the post of Dean (Academic) from 2016 onwards.
He is interested in academics and ethics. He is the head of the ethics committee of the college and various other committees. He is member of various selection committee in various other colleges like JIPMER. He has organized many CME’s, Workshops and Guest Lectures for a diverse group of people including police, lawyers and doctors.

UG – Department of Forensic Medicine
Generic outcome
To produce a physician who is well informed about medico legal responsibilities in practice of medicine. He/she will also be capable of making observations and inferring conclusions by logical deductions to set enquiries on the right track in civil/criminal matters and connected medico legal problems. He/She acquires knowledge of law in relation to medical practice, medical negligence and respect for codes of medical ethics.

PG – (M.D) Department of Forensic Medicine
A post graduate student, upon successfully qualifying in the M.D (Forensic Medicine) examination, should be able to
1. Become an expert in Forensic Medicine.
2. Identify and define medico-legal problems as they emerge in the community and work to resolve such problems by planning, implementing, evaluating and modulating Medico- legal services.
3. Undertake medico-legal responsibilities and discharge medico-legal duties in required settings.
4. Keep abreast with all recent developments and emerging trends in Forensic Medicine, Medical Ethics and the law.
5. Deal with general principles and practical problems related to forensic, clinical, emergency, environmental, medico-legal and occupational aspects of toxicology.
6. Deal with medico-legal aspects of Psychiatry, mental health and drug addiction.
7. Impart education in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology to under-graduate and post- graduate students with the help of modern teaching aids.
8. Assess the students’ knowledge and skills in the subject of Forensic Medicine.
9. Oriented to research methodology and conduct of research in the subject.

Facilities
- Department Infra-structure: The department has modern amenities with well-planned, spacious and furnished faculty rooms. The departmental office is equipped with computers and broadband internet facility. The Wi-Fi internet facility is also available for laptops, tablets & mobile for the entire faculties.
- Department Museum: Museum is one of the well planned and furnished sections in the department. It contains good collection of wet specimens mounted in glass jars. The catalogues arranged along with specimens are available to students for self-learning. Museum also contains huge collection of poisons, weapons, skeletal remains. Poisons & weapons are displayed in glass cupboards. The corridor of the department is filled with informative charts and photographs of forensic importance.
- Practical halls & Library: The practical hall is spacious and contains all the necessary materials for practical learning. The department research laboratory is well equipped with facilities for academic research activities. The departmental library cum seminar room contains good collection of books to update and for reference. There are two demo rooms with OHP, LCD projectors. Each demo room can accommodate comfortably about 75 students.
- Department Motuary: The department has a separate mortuary block towards the south side of the hospital building. It is well maintained & equipped with autopsy room and cold storage. The autopsy room is provided with two dissection tables with a well-equipped organ dissecting table and electric saw. The autopsy room has open gallery for students to observe the procedure. There are four cold storage units with (4+4+2+2) cabinets for preserving 12 dead bodies at a time.
