Exploring the theme of student leadership in areas of research, clinical skill development and social accountability, the Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, Puducherry, hosted the 7th South Indian Medical Students Conference (SIMSCON – 2015) in the last week of June.

The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Sunil Chandy, Director, Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore, who presented the keynote speech. The conference is considered unique as it is organised completely by medical students. Around 380 delegates from 35 dif-ference medical colleges participated in the conference.The three-day medical conference, with the theme, `Leadership towards better health’, comprised skill training workshops in Cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation, Electrocardio gram, radiology, arterial blood gas analysis, commu-nication skills and literature search.

The conference was led by Dr. Raveendran (JIPMER), Dr. Kadambari (JIPMER), Dr. Sathyababu (HelpAge India), Thomas Mathew (SMVMCH) and was moderated byDr.AmolDongre(SMVMCH). Around 80 scientific papers were presented through oral presentations and poster presentations.

Some of the new features of this year’s conference included pre conference workshops, inter-collegiate quiz, Spell Magic (scramble gamed with medical terms), Clinico Pathological. Con-ference and e-Poster presentations. The conference also included yoga sessions, and social events.Student secretary Ubenthira Patgunarajah said it was the first time the conference was being held over three days with such elaborative arrangements, according to a press release from the college.He termed it a grand success.
