National Dentist Day 2024

Day Celebration

In view of “National Dentist Day,” we conducted a free dental screening camp for students at Thirubhuvanai Government High School on 06.03.2024 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Totally 232 students were screened during the camp. Additionally, students visiting our department through the program within two weeks can also avail free dental treatment. We thank the management, administrators, and paramedical staff for their support, which made this event a grand success.

Introduction: The Ophthalmology Department of SMVMCH successfully organized a webinar on “Premium IOLs – MFIOL, EDOF and TORIC Lens” on 25th February 2024. The webinar aimed to enhance the understanding of postgraduates regarding advanced intraocular lens (IOL) technologies used in cataract surgery.

Guest Speaker: Dr. Naveen Nischal .G, a distinguished Medical Officer from the Cataract and IOL services department at Arvind Eye Hospital, Pondicherry, served as the guest speaker for the webinar. Dr. Nischal’s expertise in premium IOLs and extensive experience in cataract surgery added significant value to the webinar.

Webinar Content: The webinar commenced with an overview of premium IOLs, including Multifocal IOLs (MFIOL), Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) IOLs, and Toric Lens. Dr. Nischal provided insights into the technological advancements, benefits, and considerations associated with each type of premium IOL.

February 16, 2024 (Eating Disorder awareness day Programme)

DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT

On 16th February, 2024, Department of psychiatry of Sri ManakulaVinayagar Medical College and Hospital conducted Awareness Program for “Eating disorder”. The event held from 2 pm to 4 pm at the College Lecture hall.

Participants for the awareness program are First year Allied health students. Our Professor and Head Dr. S. Arun gave a lecture on the topic “Understanding and treatment protocols of Eating disorders”. The lecture was a enlightened the students about the importance of eating disorders and many students gave positive feedback.

Following that, the students were screened for eating disorders using “Eating Attitude Test” Performa by clinical Psychologist. Later to conclude the program, Awareness pamphlets about eating disorders were unveiled by Dean (AHS) Dr. Ramya.

International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon’s Day

The Department of Dentistry celebrated International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Day on 13.02.24 at basement auditorium (hospital block) to create awareness among Allied Health Sciences students regarding road traffic safety, emphasizing essential do’s and don’ts to prevent facial injuries.

Dr. Ramya (Dean,) Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College-School of Allied Health Sciences was the special guest of the event. Dr.P.Sanjay MDS DNB,MOMSRCPS(Glasgow) Professor and Head, Department of Dentistry,SMVMCH,welcomed the guest.

Dr. S. R. Karthik Ragupathy, MDS, Professor, Department of dentistry,SMVMCH,delivered a lecture on overview of Oral and maxillofacial trauma and its management and Dr. R. Ganesh BDS, Tutor, Department of dentistry,SMVMCH,delivered a comprehensive awareness talk focusing on road safety. Around 180 allied health sciences students attended the event. It is hoped that the knowledge gained from this event will contribute to creating safer roads and reducing the burden of facial trauma in the community. World Regional Anaesthesia Day

Report
As a part of world Regional Anaesthesia Day in guidance of IQAC celebration. A guest Lecture on ” INTRECACIES OF TRUNCAL BLOCKS” was delivered by Dr.ArishB.T on 29.01.2024 in skill lab lecture hall.Sixty delegates from various medical college attended the lecture.

MACE -2024 (Manakula Anaesthesia Continuing Education)

A one day workshop cum continuing Medical Education Programme (CME ) event was organized on 7.01.2024 in our institute in association with Indian Society of Anaesthesiologist (ISA) puducherry Branch. various national and international level speakers participated as guest Faculty in the event. Nearly 200 delegates attended the CME and 84 delegate attended the workshop.

The theme of workshop was working principles of Anaesthesia workstation. Tamil Nadu Medical Council awarded 2’ credit hours for the event.

Acute MI – Management Perspectives

Report
The Department of Cardiology organized an Academic Programme for Nursing Students on the Topic Acute MI – Management Perspectives on 12.12.2023.

A total of 32 students attended the Programme Dr. Ashida, Professor & HOD introduced the topic. Dr. Devan, Assistant Professor of Cardiology gave an elaborate talk on Management of STEMI. This was followed by Discussion & Question & Answer session where students participated actively.

World Anaesthesia Day

DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT
“World Anaesthesia Day” was celebrated on 16.10.2023. As a part of the occasion various events were conducted.
A public display ( Poster) about the field of Anaesthesia to create awareness among public was done in the Hospital.
A Poster Competition for Allied Health Sciences was conducted and cash prize was awarded to the Best Poster.
A social outreach activity was conducted in Government Boys Higher Secondary School Valavanur. Public Awareness about the field of Anaesthesia was created among the Higher Secondary School Students and Basic life supporting training was given to interested students in the Campus. Around 200 students were sensitized about basic life support.
A workshop on Peripheral Venous Cannulation was conducted for Paramedical Staff and Nursing Staff was conducted in Hospital Permises.
A talk by Postgraduates on Pioneers of Anaesthesiology was conducted from 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM in the Department.

WORLD CANCER DAY 2022 CELEBRATION

Theme of this year: “CLOSE THE CARE GAP”

The Department of Surgical Oncology & Clinical Oncology conducted CME Programme -“Recent updates in Management of Breast Cancer” in via of World Cancer Day 2022.

The event was conducted on 3rd February 2022 from 9 am – 12 pm and was attended by dignitaries and more than 100 Medical students (UG & PG) from various Medical Colleges.

A Quiz competition was also conducted for PG students & Interns at the end of the programme & winners received prizes from the Chief Guest.

SIMSCON (South Indian Medical Students Conferences)

S I M S C O N – 2011

SIMSCON is conducted by the institute every September to showcase the research and presentation skills of medical students. The conference includes Research paper presentation, case reports, Theme presentation and SIMS Quiz. The Conferences held till today has been a great success and students from all our South India have participated with great enthusiasm.

Research among Medical Students.

Medical Students are encouraged to take active participation in research activities. In the past 4 years about 30 students have done short term research products sponsored by ICMR (Indian Council of Medical research)

Scientific Society

Scientific Society of SMVMCH organises scientific meetings every month in the institute. Research papers, case reports, updates etc., are presented in the meetings. Besides the scientific society periodically organizes guest lecturers from eminent personalities.

Medical Education Unit

The Medical education unit conduct orientation program for the teaching staff in various educational modalities. The biannual 4 day workshop for medical teachers trains about 30 staff every year.
