ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO M.B.B.S DEGREE COURSE

Qualification

Candidates seeking admission to the M.B.,B.S., degree course should have a pass in the in HSC (Academic) examination conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu or any other equivalent examination thereto with a minimum of 50% marks (40% marks for SC/OBC/MBC candidates) in aggregate in the subjects – English, Biology / Botany & Zoology, Physics and Chemistry. For students belonging to SC/ST, the maximum number of appearances (including first appearance) permitted to pass the qualifying examination is two and one for others.

Improvement Marks

Candidates may also seek admission with marks scored in the Improvement Examinations if they are advantageous, provided it is the first Improvement Examination. First improvement refers to the improvement examination taken first time after passing the qualifying examination. Improvement marks secured in the subsequent improvement examinations will not be considered. The above candidates should enclose attested copies of both sides of mark statement of all the improvement examinations.

Nationality

The applicant for admission should be a Resident Indian National and should have studied in schools located in India in the preceding two years except for those admitted against seats reserved for Non-Resident Indians.

Age Limit

Candidates should have completed a minimum of 17 years of age. The age will be reckoned as on 31st December of the current year. There is no upper age limit prescribed.

ABOUT THE COURSE

The duration of the course is four Years and six Months, followed by Compulsory Rotatory Internship of one year.

FIRST YEAR M.B.,B.S., COURSE : (12 MONTHS)

Subjects Taught

Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and Community Medicine.
Students should pass all the First M.B.,B.S., Examination subjects before entering the Second year.

SECOND YEAR M.B.,B.S., COURSE (18 MONTHS)

Subjects Taught

Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, General Medicine, Paediatrics and General Surgery.

FINAL YEAR M.B.,B.S., COURSE : (24 MONTHS)

Subjects Taught

General Medicine, Paediatrics, Tuberculosis and Chest Medicine, Psychiatry, Dermatology , Venereology and Leprosy, Community Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ear, Nose and Throat, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Anaesthesiology and Radiology.

Compulsory Rotatory Internship (12 Months)

Every candidate, on passing the Final M.B.,B.S., examination, shall undergo twelve months of Compulsory Resident Rotatory Internship training, before he / she qualifies for full registration by the Tamil Nadu State Medical Council.

University Examination

A candidate will be allowed to appear for University examinations only if he / she obtains a minimum of 50% of marks in each subject in the internal assessment.

Attendance Rules

Regular and punctual attendance of lectures, tutorials, demonstrations, practicals, clinics, class examinations is compulsory. Students who do not possess 80% of attendance and those whose progress and conduct are not considered satisfactory, as per university rules, will not be allowed to appear for the University examination.
