TEACHING

Every year 150 students are imparted training as per the latest pattern recommended by the MCI. Assessment of the students is carried out by conducting various types of seminars, tutorials and examinations (written, oral and practical).

Quiz

After finishing a series of lectures on a particular system, a departmental quiz is organized by the faculty members for the undergraduate medical students.

DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY SERVICES

In addition to the regular staff, the department has got 10 paramedical staff to provide routine as well as round the clock emergency services in the hospital.

The Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory was established in July, 2004. Emergency services were started in May 2007. Presently the department is equipped with an Autoanalyser, Semiautoanalyser, Blood Gas Analyser, Electrolyte analyser and other equipments required to carry out different investigations.

Approximately 40 parameters are measured in the department including routine as well as special investigations (like hormonal assays, stone analysis, lipid profile, tumor markers, 24 hours urine electrolytes, HbA1c, etc.). 24 hour emergency services are provided for the patient care and about 18 investigations are done round the clock.

RESEARCH

Our faculty members have many publications in reputed medical journals. They are also involved in the departmental research projects on GTT, Insulin resistance, Thyroid profile and PSA .

Awards / Honours

Dr. S. Asmathulla, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry received the First Prize for his best Poster Presentation on “Oxidative stress alters the plasma albumin homeostasis in pregnancy induced hypertension”, during the 33rd Annual Conference of the Clinical Biochemists of India held at AFMC, Pune, during 23rd to 26th of November 2006.   He also received the Second Prize in the Biochemistry Quiz during the same conference.

Gold Medal for M.B.,B.S.,Students

Our students achieved 90 % pass percentage in the first year Final  Examination conducted by the Pondicherry University. This is the highest pass percentage achieved among the all Medical colleges of Puducherry state.  Besides, our students also secured the following University ranks in Biochemistry and other departments  :

Mr. Jaganattane and Mr. M. Thiagarajan of I M.B.,B.S., course from our college won the First Prize with Gold Medal in the “MED-BIOQUEST – 2007” competition organized by the Association of Medical Biochemists of India – Puducherry Chapter on 10th March, 2007 held at Arupadai Veedu Medical College, Puducherry.
 
Mr. Nivedhan Sundaram and Ms. Shaaron of I M.B.,B.S., course from our college won the First Prize with Gold Medal in the “MED-BIOQUEST – 2008” competition organized by the Association of Medical Biochemists of India – Puducherry Chapter on 10th March, 2007 held at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, Puducherry.

The students of our institution are continuously winning the First Prize – Gold Medal in the MED-BIOQUEST organized by the Association of Medical Biochemists of India – Puducherry Chapter.
